138. Ayame Goriki (剛力彩芽) (New Talent)

To all of you Japanese drama fanatics out there!
There is a new star on the rise. Her name is Ayame Goriki (剛力彩芽). She will star in a new J-drama premiering this July on TV Tokyo called, "IS ~ A Gender Not Male Nor Female" (IS〜男でも女でもない性).

Basic Info:
Name: Ayame Goriki
Nicknames: Go-chan, Ayame-chan
Profession: Actress/Model
Birth Date: 1992.8.27
From: Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan
Height: 162cm
Sizes: 77-58-84

I discovered Go-chan just a couple of days ago, on the TV Asahi variety show, "Torihada ~100 Secret Scoops Dictionary" Her youthfulness just radiated throughout the show. I could see that even without make-up, she is an eye-capturing beauty. You can see some clips of her in this video link, as she outshines the AKB48 girls.

Ayame Goriki. Circa 2007.

Starting out as a commercial and magazine model, Ayame Goriki has only acted in minor roles prior to her first main-role on TV Tokyo. Those dramas were not big hits, and as Go-chan was constantly in competition with another model called Emi Takei (武井咲), who is about the same age and of the same management company, her fame never extended beyond her photographs in Seventeen magazine. However, this all changed, when Go-chan underwent an image change.

She styled her hair short!!

The Legendary Momoe Yamaguchi

The brilliant move by her management had a surprising twist that they themselves had not predicted -- She now looks like the 1970s idol-sensation, Momoe Yamaguchi (山口百恵)! Some media in Japan (including 2ch) have called her the "Rebirth of Momoe". Her image became extremely memorable, and she stands out among all the Seventeen models.

Actually, before her image change, she looked like Airi Suzuki (鈴木愛里) of ℃-ute. She has a face that is innocent and slightly crossed eyes that make her add an exotic twist to the cute girl image. It is like Marshall Mcluhan said, those who look like everyone and who remind viewers of everyone are those who will succeed in television. Ayame Goriki has that face.

A young Go-chan again.

This is Airi Suzuki, but can you even tell the difference?

As for the drama IS ("ai-esu"), which is based on an LGBT manga which won the 2007 Shojo manga prize, it will definitely provide Ayame Goriki with a wider audience. Her cross-dressing scenes are cute and believable. Although she does not update her blog regularly, and her followers are still few in number, I believe she has what it takes to be a popular actress in the near future.
